Help needed to create more meadows

Post by Jon Valters »

Meadow enthusiasts in West Devon are urgently seeking others who share their passion for this rare and special habitat.
The West Devon Meadows Group – which is part of Moor Meadows – is looking for people to strengthen its steering group.
They’re particularly keen to hear from people with organising skills, social media and computer know-how, and experience of fundraising.
But the group would be pleased to be contacted by anyone with a passion for wildlife-rich meadows. They’re also hoping that a local farmer will join the steering committee. The committee currently has four members but the group would like to double that number. The informal meetings – often on-line – are held once a month and rarely last more than an hour.
The West Devon Group provides advice to people wanting to establish or restore a wildflower meadow in a garden or the wider landscape. It has already organised a successful public meeting in Lifton and held a number of courses. In future it hopes to run a number of projects to help local communities create areas of wildlife habitat. This could involve improving a churchyard for wildlife, helping a village with a wildflower verge project or creating a new community orchard.
