In Devon we have over 500 churchyards – many in ancient churches with wildflower species that may have been present for centuries. They can be a valuable green space in urban environments, often providing a home for plants and animals lost in the surrounding areas. There is an increasing interest in managing these sites for both people and nature. Caring for God's Acre is a charity that specialises in the preservation of wildlife and the heritage of burial grounds, graveyards and cemeteries https://www.caringforgodsacre.org.uk/

For specific advice on creating a meadow within your churchyard, see this useful download: https://www.caringforgodsacre.org.uk/wp ... ldlife.pdf

There is more information and some useful links about other habitats on the Devon county council Environment pages: https://www.devon.gov.uk/environment/wi ... hurchyards
