Wood you believe It!

A veteran oak in our hedgerow , hollow and hanging on almost by the bark ,notice the fern growing above. Talk about the green man im sure there is a face there. There are also the almost fossilised remains of 7 tree stumps in the hedgerow ,all cut at the same hight .I found from ancestry research a newspaper cutting from 1900 adverting the sale of mature oaks and elms when our meadow was part of the adjacent farm. Believe these were 7 elms ,would the stumps survive for 120 years?
