RSPB Haweswater

Post by Kevin Cox »

If you're visiting the Lake District in June/July, I can recommend a visit to the Swindale valley above Haweswater. This is an RSPB reserve on the eastern edge of the Lakes and it's a hidden gem. The Swindale beck has had its meanders restored, the hay meadows teem with birds and insects and the alpine flowers are starting to recolonise the lower slopes now sheep numbers have been reduced. And it's the only place I've seen the tiny but exquisite bog orchid. https://wildhaweswater.co.uk/
