Of interest to farmers/landowners in the Dart catchment

Post by Donna Cox »

This maybe of interest to landowners and farmers within the Dart Catchment (see map below for boundary area).

Countryside Stewardship gives Government money to farmers for work that helps wildlife and the environment. Devon Wildlife Trust helps farmers put together their application.

The window for mid-tier applications is now open for Mid-Tier Countryside Stewardship agreements which would start in 2022. If you farm within the catchment of the River Dart Alex Worsley from Devon Wildlife Trust is able to offer help to those wishing to apply and can guide through the process as well as arrange visits to scope potential options that may be available to you. Those going in to Mid-Tier have been given assurance that they can transition into the new Environmental Land Management Scheme when it becomes available.

Additionally, the Upstream Thinking project is able to fund up to 50% towards various capital works that would have benefits to water quality. This may include watercourse fencing, wetland creation and yard infrastructure. They can also potentially enable habitat restoration projects such as wild flower meadow creation. Additionally, Devon Wildlife Trust are looking for ‘donor’ sites to utilise for harvesting seed for further meadow creation. If you have a suitable meadow for Devon Wildlife Trust to harvest from, they would be incredibly grateful!

Please get in touch if you would like more information.
