Western Heavy Horses and Grass Cutting

Post by Jen »

Many of you will know of the Western Heavy Horses Society. https://www.westerncountiesheavyhorseso ... o.uk/home/

I went along to a weekend event recently and in reading the posts on More Meadows about cutting meadows, drying, stacking and bailing, I think there needs to be a strong link made with the wonderful Heavy Horse people.
It was wonderful and really interesting to watch these beautiful animals and their owners, cutting and drying and harrowing a field of hay. They are struggling to keep the old traditions going and the horses and people who want to learn this gentle strong skill.
With more meadows being created on small and large lands in the west, it seems a perfect match to reinvigorate the joy of seeing horses on the land. Make it into a gathering event, invite those around to bring a chair, or a rug and watch this quiet happening.
