Article outlining the first year of a meadow creation project

Someone a while back asked for before and after photos of meadows. With that in mind, I’ve written a blog piece about the first year of our community meadow at Moorhaven on the southern edge of Dartmoor.

I’ve tried to explain some of our management decisions but, while I wait impatiently for spring and summer to show if they have paid off, I’d be very pleased to hear suggestions for improvements. My thinking currently is I’ll use a scythe to keep some patches of grass shorter to increase species diversity, but it’s a balance between creating micro habitats and keeping it looking tidy in a public area.
