Bumblebees

Post by David Crook »

Have a look at this link to the most common species, and other links at the wider website:

Paul Williams, Bumblebee researcher at the Natural History Museum, London has produced a stylized interactive key to the common species at http://www.nhm.ac.uk/research-curation/ ... olour.html.

This link http://www.nhm.ac.uk/research-curation/ ... index.html takes you to the homepage of the Bombus website. It has some nice links to the British species, but also a wealth of additional information on all species (UK and the world) of this extremely important and now almost iconic, but threatened, group of insects.

There’s a lot of literature on resource competition between honey bees and bumblebees. This is the latest open access paper that I’m aware of, it’ll refer to loads more past research in the reference section.
