Some people wonder whether in using bracken in compost or as mulch it would lead to introducing bracken to new areas where it was not wanted. Would the spores germinate new rhizomes if they are spread in compost? I guess spores might survive the composting or mulching processes, but as the article states bracken rarely sporulates in the UK. The rust coloured sproangia are easily seen on the underneath of fronds, so you can simply walk away when you do see them.
