Anyone know what this is? Body length about an inch, and large antlers must have been in region of 2-3 inches.

Re: Advice please on whether to roll and mow humpy bumpy anthill strewn grassland

A quick thought Alice, about fencing. A 21 acre field is very large to fence, I'm guessing expensive too...but would it be affordable/possible to have a smaller area of 'mobile' fencing? Something you could move around and keep a much smaller number of animals, but move them around onto bits that ne...

Re: Anyone know these plants?

Just wanted to post a couple of photos of one of the plants I couldn't identify in the spring, now that its in flower. Judging by the flower I think you got this right Alex! These flowers are now standing in stems about 70cm tall. I think that each flower only lives for a day as they seem to disappe...

Re: Historic orchard meadow, Denbury

I completely agree about the Barn owl Trust, I just watched their video on this forum and found it fascinating and compelling. It was a comment from Katie Sykes ( topic; South Hams meadows) about two barn owls hunting on her land that inspired me to look it up. Even though I've never seen a barn owl...

Re: Meadow Butterflies

Just to add a couple of photos I took here of the White Admiral. Probably female as they're slightly larger and lighter brown than the males.

Re: Meadow Butterflies

Hundreds of Meadow Browns gracing the meadows this year along with Ringlets,Common Blues and Large Skippers……but yet to see a Marbled White .Elsewhere on the farm topping has had to be curtailed as the Peacocks have taken over a nettle patch. It's a great pleasure to see butterflies increase in the...

Re: Anyone know these plants?

Interesting, thanks Alex. I have just looked it up, and I have seen some small blue flowers rather like those of pale flax in another field last year, so maybe that's it. I'll watch carefully for flowers this year.

Re: Identify Flower from 1867

Lovely book. It does look like lavender but I'm offering another possibility. Its a bit of an outsider but it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw your photo. Betony. I've joined a couple of photos of betony in my field, and a dried head...the dried one looks much more spiky I know, but ...

Re: Anyone know these plants?

Thanks Richard , that's really helpful. The toadflax (possibly) I'll keep watching and see if I can catch it in flower. I've just looked up Cinnabar moths. I haven't noticed any here, despite plenty of Ragwort. But there is some similarity to Burnet moths by the look of it, of which there are many, ...
