Some random meadow photos since we steeped some hedges and tidied up and seeded our verges and hedgerows - still work in progress. Have left the brash cut from the hedges as an additional wildlife corridor and refuge .

Blackbird nest in our newly layed hedge. Nettles supporting newly emerged over wintered . Dandelions carpet for bees etc.

Some frogspawn found today in our silted up pond. Hope they make it. A shady corner of the field but a dry January means water level is low.

Some photos of our first hedge layed this week by contractors. Amazing transformation over 3 days. I agree with everyone who favours stepping a hedge over flailing the very life out of it. Hi Jon We are soon starting some hedgelaying to make the fields stockproof for anticipated conservation grazing. Hedges had got out of hand and there is a lot of ash die back but there is plenty of material to work with. Can you use electric fencing and have some grazing from a local farmer perhaps?...

Hi Jon I agree on the shortage of long grass for all the mammals insects and bird life . When we cut our meadows for hay in early September I made sure we left a wide margin around both fields. It was great to see goldfinches feeding on the Knapweed left at the field margins and a great number of me...
