Re: Bramble Butterflies and Glow-worms

What I've noticed is that the Gatekeepers have come early this year. I saw some on 9 July, whereas most years they would not appear till late in the month.

Re: Government's Attack on Nature

I have just written to my MP, Anne-Marie Morris, protesting about the Government's plans. If you do write, please be aware that MPs tend to place less weight on letters from constituents that cut and paste material from elsewhere, and more on personal statements linked to voting intentions. Re: Soft rush and docks

Thanks, Amy. I will watch these, as I have soft rush which is spreading a bit too much. It's so helpful that you put the key points in your post, so we know whether it's worth a watch.

Re: Buy local seed wherever possible

That's interesting, Steve, because I've used an Emorsgate mix in part of the meadow and the knapweed that has come up there is still in flower.

Re: Transplanting orchids

I am reading Pam Lewis's book "Making a wildflower meadow" at the moment and she has successfully transplanted orchids (she doesn't say which species). She says "we carefully lifted the orchids with as much soil as possible, hoping to keep their essential associated fungi intact"...
