Yes, good idea to do a soil test to check your soil type if you're investing in spending on seed.

Hi Piers, if you can bare it, I'd sow seeds this September, just to make sure the ground elder is under control. As your soil is clayish, you may want to consider sowing seeds suitable for clay soil.
